Summary

This study examines advertisers' use of gender in food advertising to children. Previous studies of gender preference in children's advertising suggest gender bias exists. Food products are most often gender-neutral. Advertising for food products is compared to non-food advertisements. Measures of voice-over gender, gender of dominant product user, gender of main character, activity level, aggressive behavior level, and soundtrack volume are examined. A sample of food advertisements to children exhibits greater gender preference in presentation than the comparison sample of non-food advertisements to children. This suggests that food advertising should consider gender bias among other factors when proceeding with self-regulation of children's advertising.

Thanksgiving Day

In the USA, Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day on 4th Thursday of November. In that day,for many American it is the most holiday apart from Christmas. School, offices, and most business close for Thanksgiving, and many people make the whole weekend a vacation.
Last year, I was celebrate Thanksgiving in the USA. People always with them families meet for a big dinner. The meal includes turkey, pumpkin pie and cranberries. The turkey is filled with stuffing or dressing, and many families have their own special recipe. I Love it! In addition, I was remember the American people told me they always say "thank for the world so sweet, thank for the food we eat and thank God ,for everything!" I don't really know why they say that on Thanksgiving day, maybe it different culture?
On Thanksgiving there are special television programs and sports events. Also, Thanksgiving is considered the beginning of the Christmas period, and the next day many people go out to shop for Christmas presents. I like 'Black Friday"
very much. Maybe the Thanksgiving Day is similar to Spring Festival in China, because these holidays people always with them families meet for a big dinner.

Halloween

I like this topic!   Halloween was a very different experience for me than other holidays. Halloween, as I remember it was fun.
Halloween day, thousands of children are dressing up as monsters, ghosts and witches and going to their neighbours’ houses to ask for sweets or to play tricks on them if they refuse. Many houses have lanterns made from pumpkins in their windows. These lanterns have frightening faces cut into them. So I think it is fun.
Then, pumpkins are also a symbol of Halloween, so we need to make lanterns from pumpkins. First, the inside of the pumpkin is removed. Then, a face is cut into the pumpkin, traditionally a smiling, devil face. Finally a candle is placed inside, and the lantern is put at the front of the house to keep evil spirits away.
Witches flying on broomsticks with black cats, ghosts, goblins and skeletons have all evolved as symbols of Halloween. They are popular trick-or-treat costumes and decorations for greeting cards and windows. Black is one of the traditional Halloween colors.
